Maria Miller has been appointed Secretary of State for Culture in the Prime Minister’s first significant coalition cabinet reshuffle. Conservative MP for Basingstoke since May 2005, she held several positions in the shadow cabinet and became the Minister for Disabled People in the Department for Work and Pensions when Cameron’s government was formed in 2010. Prior to this worked in a variety of marketing and advertising roles at companies including Grey Advertising and Texaco. She will also take on responsibility for the Women and Equalities portfolio, which was previously held by a Home Office minister. The outgoing Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, will become Health Secretary.
