MARK GREGORY has been appointed Interim Chair of Culture Derby.

With a background in law and experience in legal and commercial spaces, Gregory is General Counsel & Corporate Affairs Director at Rolls-Royce.

He is the current Chair of arts centre Derby QUAD.

Culture Derby was originally developed to deliver the UK City of Culture bid for 2025. After missing out on the shortlist, its priorities now include increasing the number of creative organisations and resources for cultural activity, and continuing to develop a bid for UK City of Culture 2029.

“I am proud to take on this leadership role in an organisation I believe could have a ‘game changing’ effect on Derby,” Gregory said.

“Derby has a lot to be proud of already with some fantastic arts and heritage organisations and events, however we all realise there is more to do and leadership in the form of Culture Derby is crucial if we want to take the next steps and make Derby a creative and cultural destination or powerhouse.”

Midlands Director of Arts Council England PETER KNOTT, added: “Culture Derby’s ambition to make the city a cultural hub aligns closely with the Arts Council’s aim to have a country where every one of us has access to a remarkable range of high-quality cultural experiences, and we look forward to working with Mark’s expertise to further this.”
