The Bush Theatre's new Writer in Residence is TANIKA GUPTA.

During her residency, Gupta will support the Bush Theatre’s literary and programming teams by mentoring emerging artists and writing a full-length play.

Gupta's career has seen her produce 25 plays in theatres across the UK. She has written extensively for BBC Radio drama, including works such as Death of a Matriarch, The Goldilocks Zone and Writing the Century. Two of her works – The Empress and her adaptation of A Doll’s House – are on the UK’s National Curriculum for GCSE school examinations.

In 2008, Gupta was awarded an MBE for Services to Drama and she was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2016.

The Bush Theatre's Literary Manager DEIRDRE O’HALLORAN said she is delighted to welcome Gupta, an artist she says the theatre has long admired.

"Tanika is a brilliant artist with a great track record in supporting emerging talent. We are excited for the work she will develop at the Bush and to have her clear-eyed outlook impacting our programming and artist development."
