MICHELLE MATHERSON is the new Chair of the Board of Trustees at South East London arts centre The Albany.

Matherson has over 20 years’ experience in broadcasting and is currently Senior Creative Diversity Partner, Commissioning and Content, at the BBC, where she works to create change across the corporation and creative industries.

Working closely with the Albany’s Artistic Director and CEO GAVIN BARLOW, Matherson will support the venue as it emerges from its year as lead delivery partner for Lewisham’s tenure as London Borough of Culture and becomes an Anchor Cultural Organisation for Lewisham.

Dame JOAN RUDDOCK, the Albany’s previous Chair and former MP for Deptford and New Cross said: “It has been an enormous privilege to chair the Board of the Albany for the past nine years and to be so engaged in the rich cultural life of Deptford.

“I am delighted to be continuing my involvement with the Albany as Chair of the Development Board.”

Matherson added: “Over the next few months, I’ll be embedding myself into the organisation, meeting staff, participants and my fellow trustees, and exploring how I can best use my knowledge and experience to guide the Albany into the future.”

Meanwhile, spoken word artist, actress, public speaker and facilitator ALEKSA ASME and AHMET AHMET, who leads on Inclusive Talent Development at Somerset House, have joined the Albany as trustees. Existing trustee KURBAN HAJI has been re-elected.
