Arts Council England’s (ACE) ‘Theatre in England’ review is underway, with theatre and associated professionals being asked to complete an online survey.

The review, announced in October 2015, aims to equip ACE with “a current picture of theatre in England” and will inform future approaches to investment. It is covering the wider not-for-profit and commercial theatre sectors, as well as organisations that it currently funds.

It invites theatre professionals to share their knowledge, opinions and experiences of theatre in their region. It asks about the opportunities and challenges facing theatre, in terms of making and presenting work as well as audiences, and what should be done in response.

The study is being conducted by BOP Consulting and Graham Devlin Associates, supported by John Kieffer. As well as the survey, the researchers will analyse data and conduct a literature study, in-depth interviews and focus groups to generate a comprehensive picture of the theatre sector.

Responses to the survey must be submitted by Friday 25 March.

A report on the findings is due to be published in June.
