London-based drama school LAMDA is set to open a New York studio and office next year.

The US outpost will be based in Manhattan’s Midtown from 23 January.

It will be run in partnership with the Alliance of Resident Theatres (ART New York), whose studio facilities will be used to host short courses, masterclasses and auditions.

Mark O’Thomas, LAMDA principal and chief executive, said: “We are very excited to open our doors in New York City.

“This expansion reinforces our commitment to making an impact on a global scale by providing support, resources and opportunities to aspiring creatives.

“We look forward to welcoming new students and strengthening ties with our US-based alumni network.”

The move into America is being managed by Nicholas Holden, the school’s head of academic affairs and research.

He said the expansion represents “an ambitious vision to offer our training to more people around the world”.
