Honours for arts work

Services to the arts have been recognised in this year’s New Year honours list.

Former Chief Executive of Arts Council England, Alan Davey, and Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, Jude Kelly, have been named CBEs in the New Year’s honours. Other arts figures to receive this award include Olivier-award winning director Richard Jones; Bridget McConnell, Chief Executive, Culture and Sport Glasgow; Roger Wright, Chief Executive of Aldeburgh Music and former Director of BBC Proms and Controller, BBC Radio 3.

Among other awards, David Verey, Chair of the Art Fund, receives a Knighthood, and OBEs go to Stuart Griffiths, Chief Executive of Birmingham Hippodrome; Faith Liddell, Director of Festivals Edinburgh; John Newbigin, Chair of Creative England; Barrie Rutter, Founder and Artistic Director of Northern Broadsides; Joseph Seelig, Co-Founder of London International Mime Festival; Jeffrey Skidmore, Conductor and Artistic Director of Ex Cathedra; and Robert Maskrey, for voluntary and charitable services to the Arts and the community in Wales and Herefordshire.

Among the list of new MBEs are Hasan Bakhshi, Director of Creative Economy in Policy and Research at Nesta; Graeme Phillips, retiring Artistic Director at Unity Theatre; and Paul Kerryson, Artistic Director at Curve Theatre. Ann Garner, Artistic Director of The Mission Theatre, receives the British Empire Medal.
