Contemporary Art Society opens doors
The Contemporary Art Society has announced a programme of public facing events with the hope of encouraging public support for art in the face of Government cuts. This is the first time the charity has engaged with the public in this manner, with a program of displays, talks and events, including an exhibition by recent Turner prize winner Elizabeth Price, who will also give the inaugural talk in the Society’s new home at 59 Central Street in London on 17 January. Director Paul Hobson spoke of his concern that cuts in funding and recent plans for education reform would have a ‘devastating effect’ on the creative economy, but he said that the new venue and programme could help: “Our new home will enable us to generate more support at an especially challenging time for the Arts and artists in the UK.”
